<p>People often underestimate the degree of consideration you need to use when selecting their next TV. It’s not simply a question of measuring the size of the gap you’ve got, and hitting up the local electronic store for whatever is on sale and that size. You can do it that way, but why would you spend good money on something that isn’t perfect for your needs? Especially when you consider your opportunity to buy cost-competitive TVs online, and the rapid pace of technology development. We’ve put together this list of the top five tips you should consider when buying your  next TV, whether it’s a gorgeous <a href="http://www.buytvsonline.com.au/">Samsung LCD TV</a> or a big plasma screen.<span id="more-171"></span></p>
<p><strong>Research before you decide on your budget, then stick to it.</strong></p>
<p>Often people make the mistake of setting a budget before they’ve worked out what they’re looking at. This will help you set an accurate budget, and assess what’s on offer and what features you may be after more logically, then picking your TV to match your budget. Once you’ve worked out the ballpark figure that you want to stick to, you can then focus your search on that particular price bracket, with a well-rounded understanding of the market.</p>
<p><strong>Analyse the room you’re going to put the TV in.</strong></p>
<p>Does your TV need to blend in with the design of your TV-room? Will it need to sit on a table, fit into a wall bracket or a TV cabinet? This will help you identify the non-negotiable of your TV search. If you are looking for a replacement television, don’t just go for the same model, or the same brand. Consider why you chose the initial TV, and how it works in the space. Another key element if the room you need to be aware of the light in the room, because this will influence whether you select a LCD or a Plasma TV. If you’re sitting quite far from the TV, opt for a TV that has more pixels per screen, as this will make the picture clearer and more defined.</p>
<p><strong>Think about  the benefits of LCD vs. Plasma TVs</strong></p>
<p>Both options can be mounted on a wall, or set on a table. Both have bright clear pictures,  and neither is better known for technical issues. So what’s the difference? Plasma’s only come 42 inches or larger, so if you have limited space then it may not work for you. Another key difference is that Plasma’s reflect light, where as LCD have built in anti-glare protection. So if you ever watch TV during the day, in a room with considerable light, you may want to consider a <a href="http://www.buytvsonline.com.au/products/?filter=manufacturer_3">Samsung LCD</a> tv so you don’t spend the whole time shifting around trying to escape the glare and see the picture.</p>
<p>Remember when hunting for your next TV, to do your research thoroughly and stay calm and relaxed through out the process, so you don’t make a desperation purchase or get sucked in by a talented sales person. Research the resolution and contrast ratios of your TV shortlist and make sure you research online forums for other customer’s feedback.</p>

<p>Big televisions certainly look impressive. They help draw you into what you&#8217;re watching, making every movie an hilarious, heart-wrenching or terrifying experience. They are easy on the eyes at all ages, and as producers start designing their shows with finer details, they are definitely more future ready. However, size overkill for your LCD television is a real possibility &#8211; not every customer needs a 55&#8243; screen. Our HDTV size guide explains the situations where each sizing range is suitable, and what other features you can expect along with that screen diameter.</p>
<p><strong>How do HDTVs measure up?</strong><br />
HDTV size guides all refer to the diagonal measurement of the television&#8217;s screen &#8211; don’t measure from left to right, and then go yell at your retailer! This is the industry standard for size measurement.<br />
<strong><br />
How low can I go?</strong><br />
In standard LCD televisions (not portables or computer-connect screens), you&#8217;ll find sizes as low as 11 inches. When you consider that optimal viewing distance is between 1.5times and 3 times the diagonal screen measurement, though, you would want to sit around 16 to 33 inches away &#8211; between half a metre and a meter &#8211; to get the best out of your display. That&#8217;s little more than the distance from a desk chair to a computer monitor!</p>
<p><strong>What size LCD television will be best for me?</strong><br />
As we just mentioned, optimal viewing distances with LCD technology are between 1.5 times the diagonal width of the screen, and 3 times the diagonal width of the screen. So the easiest way to figure out what size television will suit you best is to measure the distance between your planned seating, and planned TV placement. Multiply it by 1.5 to get the smallest <a href="http://www.buytvsonline.com.au/">LCD television</a> that you can view optimally, and by 3 to get the largest that will suit your space. The ready-reckoner below helps give you a rough guide to viewing distances for common screen sizes.</p>
<table border="1" width="400">
<tbody>
<tr>
<td valign="top">16:9    TV diagonal screen size</td>
<td valign="top">Min.    viewing distance (in feet)</td>
<td valign="top">Max.    viewing distance (in feet)</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td valign="top">26</td>
<td valign="top">3.3</td>
<td valign="top">6.5</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td valign="top">30</td>
<td valign="top">3.8</td>
<td valign="top">7.6</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td valign="top">34</td>
<td valign="top">4.3</td>
<td valign="top">8.5</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td valign="top">42</td>
<td valign="top">5.3</td>
<td valign="top">10.5</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td valign="top">47</td>
<td valign="top">5.9</td>
<td valign="top">11.8</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td valign="top">50</td>
<td valign="top">6.3</td>
<td valign="top">12.5</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td valign="top">55</td>
<td valign="top">6.9</td>
<td valign="top">12.8</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td valign="top">60</td>
<td valign="top">7.5</td>
<td valign="top">15</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td valign="top">65</td>
<td valign="top">8.1</td>
<td valign="top">16.2</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>
<p><strong>What is the acceptable range? </strong><br />
This HDTV size guide isn&#8217;t hard and fast; people still managed to watch The Simpsons not that many years ago, on 10 inch cathode ray sets, and still laugh at all the jokes. If you will be sitting further than 3 times the screen distance you can afford, your television certainly isn&#8217;t a waste of money &#8211; you&#8217;ll understand things perfectly, and probably not be annoyed by loss of picture quality minute to minute. However, you do miss out on the immersive feel of widescreen and HDTV.</p>
<p><strong>Other sizing considerations</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>If your television will be placed inside an entertainment unit, don’t base your space calculations on the screen size. Look for total dimensions in the product information &#8211; if they aren’t available, consult the retailer.</li>
<li>You will need to leave space for ventilation if placing inside an entertainment center, also.</li>
<li>If you want to wall mount your television, make sure you look at the total weight as well as the total size. LED televisions are generally best for wall mounting &#8211; they are usually quite thin.</li>
</ul>
